In a decisive crackdown on misconduct within its ranks, the Udhampur Police on Wednesday dismissed a constable for his alleged involvement in a narcotics case, reinforcing its tough stance against drug-related offences.
Constable Arjun Sharma (No. 886/U) was terminated from service by the senior superintendent of police with immediate effect after a departmental probe found him guilty in connection with FIR No. 170/2025, registered under the NDPS Act at Police Station Rehmbal.
The action stems from an incident in which the constable was apprehended during a routine checking by a police team from Police Post Tikri. During the operation, heroin was reportedly recovered from his possession, which was later scientifically confirmed by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL).

Officials described the act as a serious breach of duty and discipline, stating that such conduct is wholly incompatible with the responsibilities of a police officer. A formal show-cause notice was issued to the accused, but his reply was deemed unsatisfactory.
Subsequently, exercising powers under Rule 359 of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Rules, the SSP Udhampur ordered his dismissal from service.
